Yellow Mountain hosts landscape designers’ event

Wine in hand, landscape designers wandered through a rich palette of stone finishes and project prototypes as Yellow Mountain StoneWorks hosted the Washington Chapter of the Association for Professional Landscape Designers (APLDWA) on May 17, 2011.

Designed to highlight innovative applications for natural stone, the “Evening in Stone” featured a demonstration of the Buzon Pedestal system. Buzon is a huge improvement over current pedestal systems, which are extremely time-consuming to install and difficult to maintain. Jon Aguilar of Heritage Stone Masonry assembled a model using the Buzon system with large paving stones to demonstrate the ease of setting up and adjusting the pedestals.

Jon recently trained a masonry company’s crew who used the Buzon pedestal system for a large Lake Washington residential renovation project using 12”x36” pavers. The strength and adjustability of the pedestals make them a great choice for sloped roof decks and other surfaces with complex slopes and angles. Drainage, mechanical and plumbing systems can easily be tucked out of sight under the elevated walking surface. The Buzon pedestal is being used more and more for on-the-ground projects where the pedestals and the overlay application are built upon existing concrete slabs to create a completely new look.

"Evening in Stone" is the first in a series of events that YMSW is planning throughout the year to encourage collaboration among masons/installers, builders, designers and architects. We appreciate your suggestions of topics for future events designed to inspire sustainable, cost-effective solutions for using natural stone here in the Northwest.
